Puratos USA has significantly expanded its adoption of regenerative agriculture practices across its wheat supply chain. The company is incorporating approximately 30% of its wheat flour volumes into its mass balance regenerative agriculture programs, with the goal of enhancing soil health and biodiversity.
This strategic move is part of Puratos' commitment to achieving 50% regenerative sourcing by 2030. The company is working closely with its network of suppliers, cooperatives, and milling partners to implement farming methods that include crop rotation and reduced soil disturbance. These practices are intended to improve soil's organic content and its capacity to retain water, thereby fostering more resilient agricultural systems.
Luther Hardin, Senior Procurement Manager at Puratos USA, emphasized the importance of these agricultural shifts. "Farmers face real pressures from weather, yield, and long-term viability," Hardin said. "Our role is to collaborate with our partners to build a more sustainable and robust supply chain in a practical and scalable manner."
The initiative in the U.S. builds upon pilot programs initiated in 2022. It aims to embed regenerative practices directly into the supply chain and production processes, ensuring they are both feasible and functional for Puratos' customers. The company continues to focus on strengthening collaborations and long-term partnerships to promote responsible sourcing and increase transparency throughout its operations.
