16 Days 16 Films Reveals Finalists and Jury Members

Modern Films and the Kering Foundation announced on November 17, 2020, the finalists and jury for the third annual "16 Days 16 Films" initiative. The competition, running online from November 25 to December 10, aims to platform female filmmakers whose short films explore, emote, and educate on forms of violence against women, aligning with the UN's "16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence".

This year's competition received over 350 submissions from the UK, Ireland, France, Italy, and for the first time, Mexico and the United States. The 16 selected films, each 20 minutes or under, are all directed by female-identifying filmmakers and address themes of gender-based violence, inequality, and discrimination.

One finalist short film will be released daily on 16days16films.com throughout the 16-day period. The initiative will conclude with a digital awards event on December 16, hosted in partnership with Girls on Film. A winning filmmaker and two runners-up will be selected by the jury, with the first-place winner also receiving the opportunity to create a public service announcement for the "UK Says No More" campaign.

The jury includes notable figures such as film producer Barbara Broccoli, actress Ashley Judd, and Kering Foundation Executive Director Céline Bonnaire. An Audience Award will also be presented, with voting open from December 10 to 14 on the initiative's website.
