Sixteen academics from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) in Munich have been named among the world's most influential researchers on Clarivate Analytics' 2020 "Highly Cited Researchers" list. This annual ranking identifies scholars whose publications have received the most citations in their respective fields.

The list covers Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, and Medicine, analyzing citation data from publications across 22 subject areas. It serves as an indicator of a researcher's significance, quality, and impact, as measured by citations from peers. The analysis considers publications from the past 11 years, with a focus on those in the top 1% of citations.

Several LMU researchers were recognized in physics, including Nobel laureate Professor Dr. Theodor Hänsch, along with Professors Dr. Immanuel Bloch and Dr. Ferenc Krausz. In immunology, Professor Dr. Veit Hornung was acknowledged. The fields of pharmacology and toxicology recognized Professors Dr. Martin Biel and Dr. Elvir Becirovic.

Further recognition was given in psychiatry and psychology (Professor Peter G. Additionally, six LMU scholars appeared in the "Cross-Field" category for their interdisciplinary impact: Professors Thomas Bein, Niels J. Dingemanse, Dieter Edbauer, Christian Haass, Stefan A. Maier, and Christian Weber.

The 2020 list comprises approximately 6,400 researchers worldwide, based on data from the Web of Science database. The inclusion of these LMU academics highlights the university's significant contributions to global research and its strong standing in the international academic community.
