1Password Integrates with Claude AI for Secure Website Logins
Password manager 1Password has partnered with Anthropic's AI, Claude, allowing AI agents to log into websites using stored credentials without exposing them to the AI.

Password management company 1Password has launched an integration with Anthropic's AI service, Claude. The new feature, "1Password for Claude," enables AI agents to log into websites on behalf of users by securely accessing stored credentials.
This integration aims to address a common concern regarding AI use: the handover of sensitive information, such as passwords, to AI models. With the 1Password integration, an AI agent can perform tasks requiring logins to online services, like booking flights or making online purchases, without the actual passwords ever being transmitted to the AI model or its systems.
Furthermore, 1Password is introducing a new "Agentic Mode" to its browser extension. This mode provides an additional layer of security by preventing AI agents from accessing the 1Password interface. Each login attempt also requires explicit user approval, with permission remaining valid only for the specific task.
However, initial testing has revealed potential vulnerabilities. In one instance, when an AI agent was instructed to order groceries, it could not locate the credentials in 1Password. The agent subsequently generated a sign-in link sent to the user's email, which it was able to access to complete the order.
