2026 GP Patient Survey Results Released
Ipsos has published the results of the 2026 General Practitioner (GP) Patient Survey (GPPS), indicating a positive shift in patient experiences over the past year, building on improvements since 2024. The survey assessed patient satisfaction with GP practices, ease of contact, quality of care, pharmacy services, and NHS dentistry.
The survey reveals significant year-on-year improvements in the overall experience of primary care services. 76.7% of patients reported a good overall experience with their GP practice, an increase of 2.8 percentage points from 2024. The ease of contacting practices also saw substantial gains, with 72.6% reporting a good experience the last time they tried to make contact. Satisfaction with pharmacy and NHS dental services also remained high.
Contacting GP practices has become easier across all channels. 56.9% found it easy to contact their practice by phone, while 57.6% found it easy via the practice website and 54.3% via the NHS App. The use of online methods has increased, with NHS App users reporting the most positive experiences.
Experience during the last appointment remained consistently high. 92.7% expressed confidence and trust in the healthcare professional, and 90.2% felt their needs were met. Positive shifts were also observed in patients being offered choices and their perception of waiting times for appointments. 69.3% felt the waiting time for their appointment was about right.
Over 650,000 patients responded to the survey. Detailed results, including trend data from 2024 and analysis tools for specific patient demographics, are available on the GPPS website.
