26 Security Packages Repelled Ransomware and Info Stealers

German cybersecurity research firm AV-TEST has released the results of its latest Advanced Threat Protection (ATP) test. The evaluation examined 26 security products for their ability to defend against contemporary ransomware and info-stealer threats.

The test included 11 packages for consumer users and 15 solutions for corporate users, all designed for Windows environments. These products were subjected to current malware samples and attack strategies mimicking real-world cyberattacks. The objective was to determine how effectively the software could detect and block malware entry, data encryption, or theft.

Cybercriminals continuously employ new and sophisticated methods, including advanced phishing techniques and cutting-edge strategies to bypass defenses. AV-TEST's ATP test specifically assesses these advanced attack vectors. The simulated attacks were documented according to the MITRE ATT&CK framework, with points awarded for each successfully thwarted stage.

The test results revealed significant differences in product performance. While certain security software successfully blocked all threats and attacks, others faltered under more challenging attack scenarios. The findings highlight the ongoing need for robust security solutions for both consumers and businesses in the face of evolving cyber threats.
