29 Companies Reached Unicorn Status In August

A total of 29 companies joined the Crunchbase Unicorn Board in August, collectively adding around $63 billion in value. This influx highlights the rapid growth potential for well-funded startups in the current market.
More than a third of the companies reaching this valuation milestone were less than three years old, indicating a swift path to multi-billion dollar valuations for some emerging businesses.
The highest-valued new entrants included China-based humanoid robotics firm XPeng Robotics, valued at over $6.3 billion, U.S.-based photonics company Lumilens at $5.5 billion, and U.S.-based AI model platform River AI and semiconductor manufacturing startup Source Foundry, both at $5 billion.
AI software was a leading sector, with companies focusing on model training, AI assistants, and workflow automation. Semiconductors followed as the second-largest sector, with five new unicorns. Robotics and financial services each added three new companies to the list.
