38 Companies Achieve Unicorn Status In September
Thirty-eight startups achieved valuations exceeding $1 billion in September, with semiconductor, fintech, and space tech leading the count.

A total of 38 companies joined the Crunchbase Unicorn Board in September, adding $71 billion in collective valuation. Semiconductor, financial services, and space technology sectors were the most represented among the new entrants.
The United States led in new unicorn creation with 21 companies. China added six new unicorns, and the United Kingdom added three. Canada, Saudi Arabia, Japan, Israel, Italy, Finland, Germany, and Bulgaria each saw one new company reach unicorn status.
Through September, 311 companies have joined the board this year. This trajectory positions the current year as the second-highest for new unicorn creation, trailing only the venture peak year of 2021, which saw over 600 companies achieve the milestone.
Several existing companies on the board also reported significant valuation increases. These include San Francisco-based Cognition, an AI for software engineering developer, which saw its valuation climb to $48 billion. Data center provider Crusoe was valued at $31 billion, and Paris-based research lab Mistral reached a valuation of $24.4 billion.
