3D Artist Dušan Vukčevič Discusses Photorealism and Creative Process

Slovenian 3D artist Dušan Vukčevič provides an in-depth look at his approach to creating photorealistic 3D art. With over two decades of experience in computer graphics, Vukčevič specializes in architectural visualization, product rendering, and animation.

Vukčevič transitioned to 3D artistry after initially working in economics and accounting. He discovered a passion for photorealism, which led him to leave his previous career and pursue freelance work. He collaborates with various clients, including the Minneapolis-based studio Humdinger.

Detailing his creative process, Vukčevič explains that personal projects often begin without a set goal. He utilizes Cinema 4D to experiment with elements until an idea emerges, emphasizing the importance of intricate details and subtle imperfections for enhancing realism. His workflow typically involves Cinema 4D, ZBrush for sculpting, and Redshift for rendering.

His recent project, "The Lifer," was inspired by the atmosphere and visual style of the horror film "The Night House." Vukčevič also incorporates Red Giant tools, such as Magic Bullet Looks, for color correction and to establish the mood in his final pieces.
