3M Posts Strong Second Quarter, Increases Full-Year Outlook
ST. PAUL, Minn. – 3M announced on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, its second-quarter financial results, which exceeded expectations. The company reported a 2.4% increase in net sales to $6.5 billion. Adjusted earnings per share rose 11% year-over-year to $2.40. Following this performance, 3M is raising its full-year 2026 adjusted earnings per share guidance.
The revised guidance now anticipates adjusted earnings per share between $8.80 and $8.95, up from the previous forecast of $8.50 to $8.70. This increase reflects the company's solid performance in the first half of the year and its ongoing momentum.
For the second quarter, 3M's adjusted sales grew by 5.4% year-over-year. The reported operating margin stood at 15.1%, but the adjusted operating margin improved by 40 basis points to 24.9%. This enhancement in operating margin indicates a strengthening of the company's operational profitability.
The company also generated $1.0 billion in operating cash flow and $1.3 billion in adjusted free cash flow. 3M returned $1.4 billion to shareholders through dividends and share repurchases.
CEO William Brown stated that the company surpassed expectations with mid-single-digit sales growth, robust operating margins, and double-digit EPS growth. He expressed confidence in the company's ability to create long-term shareholder value and thanked employees for disciplined execution.
