A16z's Olivia Moore Sees Consumer AI Growth Potential
Olivia Moore, a partner at Andreessen Horowitz, identifies significant potential in consumer-focused AI, emphasizing the need for new revenue streams beyond subscriptions and API charges.

Olivia Moore, a partner at venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), sees substantial growth potential in the consumer artificial intelligence (AI) market. Moore, however, stresses the industry's need to develop new revenue streams beyond traditional subscriptions and API charges to realize its full potential.
Moore's recent report, which profiles the top 100 consumer AI applications, indicates that ChatGPT remains the dominant player. The report also highlights smaller players like Suno and ElevenLabs that have demonstrated staying power. Perhaps more interestingly, the report identifies several consumer categories that remain largely untouched by AI applications.
Moore acknowledges that companies like OpenAI have shifted focus towards enterprise clients, and the majority of AI revenue thus far has come from subscriptions and token usage. However, she believes the economic model for consumer AI can evolve with further innovation in revenue generation.
Currently, only a small percentage of U.S. households pay for AI services, indicating the market is still in its early stages. Moore suggests that the industry must develop solutions that offer clear value and create robust revenue models to foster broader consumer adoption.
