A7: Elbtunnel to be closed for two weekends in September
The Elbtunnel on the A7 motorway in Hamburg will be closed for traffic for two full weekends in September due to extensive maintenance work. An upgrade of the traffic management system is underway.
The Elbtunnel on the A7 motorway in Hamburg will be closed to traffic for two weekends in September. The Autobahn-Gesellschaft Nord announced that both directions will be affected by the closures, each lasting 55 hours.
The first closure is scheduled for September 11-14, and the second for September 25-28. The closures will begin on Friday evening at 10 PM and end on Monday morning at 5 AM. For long-distance traffic, Autobahn-Gesellschaft Nord recommends bypassing Hamburg via extensive detours.
The reason for the extensive closures is an upgrade of the traffic management system. In the future, the Elbtunnel will manage 15 motorway tunnels. Local diversions will be in place for traffic within Hamburg. Travelers should allow for extra travel time or use public transport when passing through the area.
A planned total closure of the Schnelsen Tunnel on the A7 in June has been canceled. The Elbtunnel will be excluded from closures during July and August, despite expected high travel volume.
