A8 near Pforzheim closed towards Stuttgart for the weekend

The A8 motorway, a key route between Karlsruhe and Stuttgart, will be closed for 55 hours in the direction of Stuttgart near Pforzheim from Friday evening, June 12, to Monday morning, June 15. The closure is for the installation of a new road surface and will affect traffic heading towards Stuttgart. Traffic heading towards Karlsruhe is not affected.

The official detour, designated U7, will divert traffic from the Pforzheim-West junction through the city's road network to the Pforzheim-Nord junction. This diversion route is expected to experience significant traffic jams. Furthermore, the extensive Enztalquerung construction site in the Pforzheim area, which is already causing delays, is one of the most congested areas on German motorways.

The Enztalquerung construction site, spanning from Pforzheim-Nord to Pforzheim-Süd, is projected to last until the end of 2027. The project aims to expand the motorway to three lanes in each direction and enhance safety along the Pforzheim Scentry section. This involves constructing eight new bridges and a complete reconstruction of the Pforzheim-Ost junction.

ADAC advises travelers to follow official detour signs and avoid using navigation systems during the closure. Long-distance detours are also recommended to bypass the Pforzheim area entirely.
