Abbott Confirms Data Breach in Cancer Diagnostics Division

Abbott Laboratories reported on August 5, 2026, that a previously disclosed cybersecurity incident involved the theft of sensitive data. The company stated that the breach, which occurred in its Cancer Diagnostics division, compromised files containing both personal and health information.

The intrusion was identified as a vishing—or voice phishing—attack rather than a traditional malware or ransomware event. Abbott confirmed that the incident was isolated to internal diagnostic systems and did not disrupt clinical operations, product manufacturing, or the delivery of patient care.

The company is currently conducting a forensic analysis to determine the full scope of the compromised data. Abbott indicated that it is working with law enforcement and external cybersecurity experts to resolve the matter and intends to notify affected individuals as the investigation progresses. Abbott maintains that the incident will have no material impact on its overall financial performance.
