Abbott Connects Libre 2 Glucose Sensor to WeightWatchers Diabetes Plan

Abbott Laboratories has integrated its FreeStyle Libre 2 continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system with WeightWatchers' (WW) diabetes-tailored plan. The new connection allows users to synchronize their glucose data directly into the WW app.

The partnership aims to help individuals with diabetes better understand how food and activity impact their glucose levels. Within the WW app, users can view their glucose data while receiving guidance from WW's weight management plan, which follows American Diabetes Association (ADA) guidelines.

According to WeightWatchers, the plan is designed to support sustainable weight loss and lower A1c levels, potentially reducing the risk of diabetes complications. The WW app also provides access to a recipe database and information on nutrient-dense ZeroPoint foods, selected according to ADA guidance.

The connection between Abbott's CGM technology and WW's science-based plans seeks to simplify diabetes management. Dr. Michelle Cardel, WW's Head of Clinical Research and Nutrition, emphasized that a system supporting exercise and a healthy diet can help individuals achieve their goals without giving up favorite foods.
