Abbott Expands Specialist Care to "Care Deserts"
Abbott is sponsoring doctors and remote care technology to improve access to specialized medical services in underserved regions of the United States.

Abbott Laboratories is expanding access to specialized medical services in underserved regions across the United States by combining physician-led health screenings with remote care technology.
The initiative aims to address gaps in healthcare access, particularly in geographically isolated or socio-economically disadvantaged areas, often referred to as "care deserts." Abbott is supporting vascular surgeons operating in California's Central Valley to conduct screening events focused on detecting early signs of diabetes and related cardiovascular issues.
These events aim not only to provide direct patient care and education but also to offer continuing medical education to local primary care physicians. The goal is to foster relationships between specialists and local doctors, ensuring patients receive comprehensive, multidisciplinary care.
Complementing these outreach efforts, Abbott's NeuroSphere Virtual Clinic platform facilitates remote management of conditions like chronic pain and movement disorders. This technology allows physicians to connect with patients virtually, enabling necessary treatment adjustments without requiring patients to travel long distances, thereby enhancing healthcare equity.
