Recovery from open-heart surgery typically involves a hospital stay of four to five days, with an additional six to eight weeks needed for the breastbone and chest muscles to heal before resuming normal daily activities. Less invasive procedures, such as stent placements or cardiac ablations for arrhythmias, generally require only an overnight hospital stay, with at-home recovery taking up to a month.

The guide advises patients on daily self-monitoring. This includes checking pulse daily to ensure a safe heart rate, weighing oneself each day to detect potential fluid retention that could signal cardiac issues, and adhering strictly to prescribed medications. Regular follow-up appointments are highlighted as crucial for monitoring heart condition, alongside recognizing and promptly reporting warning signs like chest pain, shortness of breath, or fever.
