Abbott Offers New Solutions for Flu Detection and Treatment

Abbott Laboratories is bolstering its fight against the flu with a comprehensive suite of products designed for detection, prevention, and symptom management. The company is providing rapid diagnostic tests for timely identification, flu vaccines for emerging markets, and rehydration solutions to aid patient recovery during peak flu seasons.

Abbott's diagnostic capabilities have been enhanced with new platforms. The ID NOW system offers molecular influenza testing with the fastest results available, frequently delivering them in under 13 minutes and providing early positive call-outs in as little as five minutes. This accelerates clinical decision-making and helps reduce unnecessary antibiotic prescriptions. Additionally, the BinaxNOW Influenza A & B Card 2 test for Abbott's DIGIVAL platform delivers automated, objective results from lateral flow tests.

In emerging markets, Abbott continues to provide protection through its Influvac vaccine, available since 1949. The updated Influvac Tetra vaccine offers protection against four virus strains, compared to the traditional Influvac's protection against three. These vaccines serve as critical tools for global public health, accessible in over 75 countries.

For patients recovering from the flu, Abbott offers its Pedialyte products for effective rehydration. Proper hydration is essential for supporting the body's recovery, nutrient absorption, and immune system function. Maintaining fluid balance also helps alleviate headaches and improves overall well-being during flu illness.
