Abbott Partners SEWA to Enhance Community Health in India
Abbott Laboratories has partnered with the Self Employed Women's Association (SEWA) to improve healthcare access and outcomes within Indian communities, focusing on non-communicable disease management.

Chicago – Abbott Laboratories has launched a partnership with the Self Employed Women's Association (SEWA) in India to advance community-centered healthcare. The initiative primarily addresses the growing challenge of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) by focusing on prevention, early detection, and management.
Abbott's health experts have collaborated with SEWA to develop tailored training modules, screening protocols, and clinical guidelines. These resources are designed to empower SEWA members and community workers, aiming to improve health literacy and ensure access to care, particularly for underserved populations.
The program utilizes trained community health workers, known as SEWA Health Ambassadors, to disseminate health information and bridge the gap between individuals and healthcare providers. This approach seeks to not only manage existing conditions but also to equip individuals with the knowledge and tools to proactively manage their health, thereby safeguarding their livelihoods and families.
Abbott highlights the partnership as a demonstration of the power of collective action in addressing health challenges. Beyond direct health interventions, the initiative also supports women's empowerment and economic development, underscoring the foundational role of health in overall well-being.
This collaboration signifies Abbott's commitment to expanding access to healthcare in India and globally, reinforcing the principle that good health should be an accessible human right for all.
