Abbott Presents New Data Supporting Cardiovascular Devices

Abbott Laboratories has bolstered its position in cardiovascular health, presenting new clinical data for key devices within its portfolio. The data, unveiled at the American College of Cardiology's (ACC) 68th Annual Scientific Session in New Orleans, provides further evidence for the efficacy of Abbott's cardiac technologies and their role in improving patient outcomes.

These findings support Abbott's ability to treat complex cardiac conditions, potentially leading to reduced healthcare costs and hospitalizations. The company's medical device sales saw a 9.1 percent increase in 2018, highlighting its strategic focus on this rapidly expanding market segment. The global cardiovascular device market is projected to grow significantly in the coming years.

Among the presented research were data sets supporting Abbott's MitraClip device for mitral valve repair in heart failure patients, and further findings from the MOMENTUM 3 study on the HeartMate 3 heart pump's two-year survival rates. Additionally, research on the CardioMEMS HF System indicated significant reductions in heart failure rehospitalizations.

The company also shared research from Japan concerning its XIENCE drug-eluting coronary stents. Abbott continues to invest in research and development to maintain its leadership in the cardiovascular device sector, a market experiencing substantial growth.
