Abbott Receives FDA Clearance for Lingo Health Coach

Abbott Laboratories has secured U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance for its Lingo biowearable, a device aimed at providing consumers with direct insights into their body's glucose levels. This clearance allows the product to be more widely available for personal health monitoring.

The Lingo device utilizes Abbott's established continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) technology, which is already used by millions worldwide. A small biosensor is worn just under the skin to continuously measure glucose in the interstitial fluid, sending minute-by-minute data to a connected smartphone application. This allows users to track how their body responds to daily activities like eating and exercise.

Beyond raw data, the Lingo app interprets these glucose readings to offer personalized coaching. It helps users understand patterns, such as spikes and dips in glucose that can affect energy levels, and guides them toward healthier habits. Abbott suggests that by helping users manage their glucose curves, the device can contribute to potentially lowering risks associated with conditions like cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

Lingo is intended for adult users (18 and older) not on insulin and is not for diagnosing diseases such as diabetes. Abbott emphasizes that the device empowers individuals with knowledge from their own bodies to proactively manage their health.
