Abbott to Build New Nutritional Facility in Bowling Green, Ohio

Abbott Laboratories announced that Bowling Green, Ohio, will host its new manufacturing facility for specialty and metabolic powder nutritional products. The plant is intended to increase the U.S. supply capacity for these essential formulas.

The company plans to invest over $500 million in the facility, which is projected to create 450 new permanent jobs in northwest Ohio, pending approvals from state and local officials. Some of these products serve as the sole source of nutrition for individuals with severe allergies to most foods or other dietary and metabolic conditions.

Groundbreaking is anticipated to begin in 2023, with construction completion expected in 2026, subject to necessary regulatory and local approvals. Abbott expects to commence commercial production of products in 2027.

Upon completion, the new facility will complement Abbott's existing plant in Sturgis, Michigan. Operations at the Sturgis facility will continue, including the production of specialty and metabolic powder formulas, to help maintain the supply of these critical products.
