Abbott Ventures Invests in Medical Device Innovation
Abbott Laboratories' venture capital arm has provided capital to dozens of medical technology startups for nearly a decade, focusing on investments with significant potential for the company's medical device businesses.

Abbott Laboratories' venture capital arm, Abbott Ventures, has served as a critical source of capital for numerous medical technology startup companies for nearly ten years. The unit focuses its investments on opportunities that show significant impact for Abbott's medical device businesses and potential for shareholder value creation.
Globally, venture capital investment in early-stage medical device startups has seen a decline. Silicon Valley Bank reported that investments in these sectors have halved over the past six years, with capital shifting towards service-based startups.
"Developing medical devices requires patience, insight, capabilities, and resources," stated Evan Norton, Divisional Vice President at Abbott's venture division. "We ensure our team identifies investment opportunities that will grant Abbott access to innovations with the potential to positively change the landscape of some of the world's most devastating diseases."
Abbott Ventures operates differently from traditional venture capital firms, investing in innovations that can improve patient lives while simultaneously generating value for the company. This strategy is key to fostering continued advancements in the medical device sector.
