Abbott's FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus Sensor Integrates with New Insulin Pump

Abbott Laboratories has introduced a new combination for diabetes management in the United States. The company's FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) sensor has now been integrated with Tandem Diabetes Care's t:slim X2 insulin pump.

This integration enables the use of an automated insulin delivery (AID) system that aims to predict and prevent rapid highs and lows in blood sugar. The FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus sensor, which received FDA clearance last year for use with AID systems, offers the longest wear time on the US market at 15 days for both adults and children.

The new sensor wirelessly transmits glucose readings to the pump every minute. Tandem's t:slim X2 pump with Control-IQ technology predicts glucose levels 30 minutes ahead and automatically adjusts insulin delivery every five minutes to help prevent hyperglycemia.

Abbott is working to expand its integrations with other insulin pump manufacturers to strengthen its position in the CGM market and enhance the patient experience for individuals with diabetes. The company has previously completed similar integrations in Europe.
