Abbott's Freestyle Libre App Now Available for Android Users

Abbott Laboratories announced it has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval for its Freestyle LibreLink application to be used by Android smartphone users. This marks a significant expansion from the previously available iPhone versions, enabling a broader population of individuals with diabetes to manage their condition through their mobile devices.

The Freestyle LibreLink app for Android, which has rapidly become one of the top medical applications on the Google Play store, allows users to check their glucose levels in seconds directly from a compatible smartphone. It provides current glucose readings, eight-hour historical data, and tracks changes, offering a more convenient way to monitor health by removing the need for a separate handheld reader.

This expansion of the FreeStyle Libre digital ecosystem is a key step for Abbott, aiming to improve health outcomes for people with diabetes. The FreeStyle Libre system is designed to help users achieve better results and reduce the need for traditional fingerstick testing.

Abbott supports over 1.5 million FreeStyle Libre users globally. The Android version of the app is compatible with NFC-enabled smartphones running Android OS 5.0 or higher, further integrating diabetes management into users' daily digital lives.
