AbbVie Presents New Data on Inflammatory Bowel Disease Treatments
AbbVie presented new research on its SKYRIZI and RINVOQ medications for Crohn's disease and other inflammatory bowel diseases at the American College of Gastroenterology meeting.

NORTH CHICAGO, Ill. – AbbVie presented 22 scientific abstracts from its inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) portfolio at the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) 2026 Annual Scientific Meeting. The data included new AFFIRM study results showing the efficacy of SKYRIZI® (risankizumab-rzaa) in advanced, treatment-naïve Crohn's disease patients. Additionally, open-label extension analyses demonstrated long-term outcomes with SKYRIZI in difficult-to-treat IBD and real-world evidence supporting RINVOQ® (upadacitinib) in advanced Crohn's disease.
The results from the AFFIRM study showed that subcutaneous risankizumab achieved significantly higher rates of clinical and endoscopic response compared to placebo at week 12. All efficacy endpoints remained numerically higher through week 24 among those achieving clinical response. Long-term analyses demonstrated sustained clinical and endoscopic efficacy with SKYRIZI for up to 144 weeks of treatment in patients with various forms of Crohn's disease and prior treatment exposure. Data also showed that 74.5% of patients with fistulizing Crohn's disease had no draining fistulas after five years of treatment with risankizumab.
Furthermore, real-world data were presented supporting the efficacy of RINVOQ for advanced Crohn's disease. These analyses highlighted the potential benefit of the medication for difficult-to-treat patients. According to AbbVie, the presented data demonstrate the company's commitment to addressing the challenges in IBD care by providing long-lasting therapies.
AbbVie is focusing on IBD research and development with the goal of improving patients' quality of life by offering new treatment options. The results the company presented at the ACG meeting affirm these efforts and show continued progress in IBD treatment.
