AbbVie has presented preliminary results from an ongoing Phase 2a study evaluating ABBV-466, a novel dual-targeting therapy, in patients with moderate to severe Crohn's disease. At Week 12, the primary endpoint, ABBV-466 demonstrated higher endoscopic remission rates than either anti-IL-23 p19 or anti-α4β7 monotherapy.

The dual-targeting approach aims to impact multiple inflammatory pathways involved in Crohn's disease. Data indicated that the treatment difference between ABBV-466 and the monotherapy groups further increased by Week 24, suggesting a potentially more pronounced long-term effect for the combination therapy.

Crohn's disease is a chronic inflammatory bowel condition that can significantly impact quality of life. Current biologic therapies often target single inflammatory mediators, such as IL-23, or adhesion molecules like α4β7 integrin. The dual action of ABBV-466 could offer an alternative for patients who do not achieve adequate response with existing treatments.

AbbVie is continuing to develop the therapy. The findings were presented at a Nordic Gastroenterology Association meeting. Further studies are needed to confirm these preliminary observations and assess the efficacy and safety of ABBV-466 in a broader patient population.
