Abcourt Mines Inc. has announced the resumption of operations at its Elder mine located in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec. The mine's hoist motor has been successfully repaired, and production crews began the shift on the night of Friday, January 29, 2021.
The company aims to quickly increase production to previous levels. Abcourt Mines emphasizes its role as a significant local employer and anticipates most employees returning to work in the coming days. The company highlighted its strong safety record, exceeding 450 days without a compensable accident, and noted the mine's clean environmental performance regarding water discharge.
During the temporary closure of the Elder mine, most of the rehabilitation crew from the Sleeping Giant mine continued advancing that project. Abcourt Mines maintains its objective of having two mines in production by the end of calendar year 2021. The company stated its financial situation is sound, supported by recent production and gold sales records, which enabled it to navigate the work stoppage period.
Abcourt Mines is focusing on exploiting the Elder mine and rehabilitating the Sleeping Giant mine. The company has also outlined a $2 million exploration program, primarily targeting the Sleeping Giant mine where significant, unexplored gold mineralization targets exist. Abcourt also holds the Abcourt-Barvue property with silver-zinc reserves.
