Abcourt starts processing plant at Géant Dormant project
Abcourt Mines has commenced operations at its Géant Dormant project processing plant in Eeyou Istchee, Quebec. The plant has restarted after maintenance and will process ore from the project's development.
Rouyn-Noranda, Canada – Abcourt Mines Inc. has announced the commencement of operations at the processing plant for its Géant Dormant project in Eeyou Istchee, Quebec. The facility is now operational and will be filled with ore for processing in the coming weeks.
The company plans to pour its first gold bar from the Géant Dormant mine since 2014. The ore to be processed originates directly from the development operations at the Géant Dormant project, located beneath the plant. Historically, the plant operated from 1987 to 2014, treating 3.37 million tonnes of ore at an average grade of 10.29 g/t gold, producing over 1 million ounces. It has also processed ore from the Elder mine and tested material from the Pershing-Manitou deposit.
Abcourt has invested in refurbishing and restarting the plant over the past several months. CEO Pascal Hamelin described the plant's restart as a significant milestone. The company anticipates the commissioning and testing phase will proceed without major issues.
Following the restart, Abcourt plans to participate in industry events, including the Mining Forum Americas 2025 in September, to present its project to investors. The company is focused on gold development projects in northwestern Quebec.
