Abel Metallsysteme Celebrates 100 Years of Metal Craft Tradition

German company Abel Metallsysteme, known for its safety systems for buildings, is celebrating a century of tradition in the metal industry in 2020. The company's story began in 1920 in Geisa, when Aloys Abel founded a cart factory.

After initial difficulties and wartime, the family business transitioned to manufacturing metal products in the 1950s. Aloys Abel's son, Franz Abel, joined the company and redirected its focus to metal goods like washers and nuts. During this era, the company operated as Aloys Abel Metallwarenfabrik.

The company's operations were influenced by its location in Geisa, a restricted zone near the inner German border. Franz Abel continued to lead the business after his father retired in the early 1960s. The company concentrated on producing washers as demand for other stamped metal parts declined. By the 1980s, the factory moved to new premises.

Following the fall of the Berlin Wall, the company faced significant challenges when production halted. Klaus Peter Abel, Franz Abel's son, took over management after his father's unexpected death in the 1990s. He acquired used machinery and rebuilt the business, initially focusing on parts for the automotive industry. In 1995, Abel Metallsysteme relocated to its current site in Geisa and expanded its product range to include safety systems such as railings and fall protection for windows.
