ABL to Provide Marine Assurance for Gennaker Offshore Wind Farm

Energy and marine consultancy ABL has secured a contract with OWP Gennaker to provide marine warranty survey and assurance services for the construction of the Gennaker offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea. The project is expected to become the largest offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea.

The wind farm, located approximately 15 kilometres off the German coast, will feature 63 high-capacity wind turbine generators with a total installed capacity of around 976 MW. According to Tilo Klappenbach, Country Manager for ABL Germany, the combination of large turbine technology, its location within Germany's 12-nautical-mile zone, and the busy maritime environment present additional transportation, installation, and navigational risk considerations.

ABL's operations in Hamburg will lead the assignment, supported by the company's regional renewables team and its experience with Baltic Sea offshore wind projects. The scope includes technical review and approval of project documentation, marine suitability and HSE inspections of the proposed vessel fleet, and on-site attendance to witness and approve warranted marine operations.

Klappenbach emphasized that ABL will combine regional knowledge, marine engineering expertise, and navigational risk analysis capabilities to support safer and more efficient project execution. He added that the Baltic Sea has become one of Europe's most active offshore wind markets, and ABL has experience supporting large offshore wind construction programs in the region.

The contract extends ABL's involvement in offshore wind construction and marine risk management in Germany. The company's services are intended to help developers, contractors, and other project stakeholders identify, assess, and reduce marine risks during offshore energy projects.
