Acer Chairman: PC Prices May Decline by End of 2027

Acer Chairman Ethan Hu (Chen Jun Sheng) has indicated in statements to Taiwanese media that the current upward trend in PC prices may begin to reverse. Hu estimates that prices for personal computers could rise by 5-20% in the final quarter of this year.

However, he projects that prices may reach a peak around the middle of 2024, followed by a potential decline. The chairman suggested that average selling prices could start to decrease, potentially as early as the end of 2027. This forecast is influenced by ongoing shortages in certain memory and processor components, although demand for these specific parts is noted as relatively low.

Acer's strategic approach involves a "multi-engine" business model, diversifying beyond its core PC operations. While personal computers still account for approximately 50% of Acer's overall revenue, the company has expanded its presence across various business units.

Regarding technological advancement, Hu dismissed the notion of a slowdown in AI development, stating that technology progresses at its own pace and the focus should be on effective governance. He also observed that high-end smartphones are not currently displacing personal computer usage, with consumers increasingly owning multiple devices simultaneously.
