Achyuta Samanta Receives Honorary Citizenship in Romania and International Distinctions
Indian educationist and social reformer, Dr. Achyuta Samanta, has been awarded honorary citizenship by the Romanian town of Milișăuți and the "key to the city" of Bârlad. He also received multiple other international accolades.
Eminent Indian educationist, social reformer, and founder of KIIT, KISS, and KIMS, Dr. Achyuta Samanta, has been honored with multiple international distinctions. On September 21, 2026, he was conferred honorary citizenship by the town of Milișăuți, Romania, recognizing his lifelong contributions to education, social development, and humanitarian action.
Samanta also received the "key to the city" from the municipality of Bârlad, making him the first Odia to receive such civic honors from two Romanian municipalities. The "key to the city" is an ancient European tradition symbolizing trust and respect.
Further recognizing his impact, Dr. Samanta was named "Leader of the Year" at the CEEMAN Champions Awards 2026 for his contributions to education, social development, and humanitarian efforts. The award ceremony took place during CEEMAN's 34th annual conference in Romania.
Additionally, FIDE presented Dr. Samanta with the "Philanthropic Award for Education" at the Chess in Education Summit in Uzbekistan on September 24, 2026. A memorandum of understanding was also signed between FIDE, KIIT, and KISS to promote chess integration in education. Dr. Samanta received four further honors at the 45th World Congress of Poets in Pristina, Kosovo, including the "Mother Teresa Award" and the title of "Professor Honoris Causa."
