ADAC Clarifies Roadside Assistance and Accident Support Terms for Members

The German automobile club ADAC has clarified the terms and conditions for its roadside assistance and accident support services for its members. The updated regulations, effective April 1, 2023, provide more precise definitions for when membership and associated benefits begin and end.

Membership commences upon the receipt and acceptance of the application, unless a later start date is expressly agreed upon. Service coverage typically begins at 00:00 on the day following the acceptance of the membership application. Termination of membership requires advance notice according to specific period requirements, and all contributions must be paid on time. Delayed payments may result in a suspension of benefits.

The ADAC's assistance services cover breakdowns and accidents occurring on public roads within Germany. Restrictions apply to vehicle types and dimensions, including passenger capacity, overall length, width, height, and permissible gross weight. Conditions are also specified for trailers and motorhomes. Certain e-bikes, pedelecs, and associated trailers are also covered under specific circumstances.

Services include on-site assistance to restore a vehicle's technical operational capability, either by ADAC's own roadside assistance personnel or through contracted partners, up to a specified monetary limit for repairs. The installation of necessary spare parts, if carried by the ADAC technician, is provided free of charge as a service, though the parts themselves are billed separately. Limited fuel supply is also included.

ADAC specifies that services do not extend to scrap vehicles, impounded vehicles, or those used for commercial passenger transport. An accident is defined as a sudden external event causing mechanical damage. The benefits also extend to minor ADAC members and their children.
