ADAC, Germany's largest automobile club, has announced the launch of a new travel health insurance product named "Basis." The policy, set to take effect from November 1, 2025, is designed to cover medical expenses for travelers while they are abroad.
The "Basis" insurance provides coverage for medically necessary treatment resulting from illnesses or injuries occurring outside Germany. Policies are structured for one-year terms with options for annual renewal. Benefits include reimbursement for inpatient and outpatient medical care, necessary transportation from the place of illness or accident, and dental treatment costs. It also covers expenses related to the repatriation of deceased individuals.
According to ADAC, the coverage is valid worldwide, excluding Germany and the policyholder's country of residence. The insurance can be taken out for individuals or families, with specific conditions applying to family members. The company clarifies that the insurance does not cover expenses incurred in Germany, even if the condition arose during an international trip, nor does it cover travel undertaken primarily for medical treatment.
Policyholders are required to provide accurate information during the application process and ensure timely payment of premiums.
