AddSecure Guides Organisations on Martyn's Law Preparedness

AddSecure has issued guidance for organisations on preparing for Martyn's Law, with the legislation anticipated to come into effect in April 2027. The new law will require those responsible for publicly accessible premises to develop and implement strategies for responding to terrorist incidents.

Martyn's Law, formerly known as the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, aims to enhance public safety by obligating organisations to take proportionate measures to mitigate the impact of terrorist attacks and improve preparedness. The law applies to premises and events with a capacity of 200 or more people and establishes a legal duty to plan, communicate, and respond effectively during an incident. This extends beyond traditional security measures like fire alarms and CCTV.

According to AddSecure, preparedness hinges on focusing on both people and processes, not solely technology. Organisations must assess potential threats and identify appropriate responses, including procedures for evacuation, invacuation (moving people to safer areas within a building), and lockdown. It is also crucial to ensure communication systems can deliver immediate and targeted alerts to staff, even during infrastructure disruptions.

The company emphasizes that the law necessitates the capability for dynamic decision-making, allowing for simultaneous evacuation and lockdown orders for different areas of a venue. Therefore, it is important for organisations to be able to verify incident timelines and actions taken to demonstrate compliance and drive future improvements.
