AddSecure Highlights Risk of Single-Path Alarm Connectivity

AddSecure, a provider of cybersecurity solutions, has detailed the risks associated with relying on single-path connectivity for alarm systems, particularly in scenarios involving infrastructure damage.

The company notes that while IP-based alarm signaling is increasingly common due to its cost-effectiveness and availability, dependence on a single broadband connection creates vulnerabilities. Events such as damaged subsea cables or fiber lines cut during construction can lead to significant communication disruptions.

"Multi-path signaling combines different transmission methods โ€“ typically IP and cellular โ€“ so that if one path fails, alarm signals still reach the ARC via the other," AddSecure stated. This redundancy ensures that alarm systems remain operational regardless of local infrastructure issues, such as broadband outages.

The company advises alarm receiving centers (ARCs) and installers to identify sites with limited infrastructure options, like rural or island locations, which are at higher risk. AddSecure recommends solutions that support multiple connection types from a single platform to simplify monitoring for operators.
