The round was led by Battery Ventures, with participation from existing investors Accel and Foundation Capital, bringing the company's total funding to $49 million.
The company focuses on combating the rise of AI-driven spear phishing attacks. These attacks leverage artificial intelligence to gather personal information and craft convincing, personalized messages designed to deceive recipients. AI can quickly synthesize details about colleagues, ongoing projects, and travel plans to create highly credible threats.
Founded by Cy Khormaee and Ryan Luo, who previously worked on Google's security technologies like Safe Browsing and reCAPTCHA, AegisAI identified that traditional rule-based systems are insufficient for detecting sophisticated AI-generated malicious emails. The startup has developed AI agents that analyze messages similarly to human reviewers, spotting subtle anomalies.
In less than a year since its launch, AegisAI reports adoption by dozens of customers. The funding will support the company's expansion and continued development of AI solutions to counter increasingly advanced cyber threats.
