AF Gruppen and Heerema Awarded North Sea Decommissioning Contract

Norwegian construction group AF Gruppen, through its subsidiary AF Offshore Decom, has been awarded a new contract alongside Heerema Marine Contractors to decommission a platform located on the UK Continental Shelf. The agreement encompasses the engineering, preparation, removal, and disposal of the platform's topside facilities, estimated to weigh around 38,500 tonnes.

The decommissioning process is structured as a multi-year campaign. Following immediate offshore surveys, a six-year period will be dedicated to detailed engineering and preparatory offshore work. The topsides will then be removed using Heerema Marine Contractors' vessels over several years. These structures will subsequently be transported to AF's Environmental Base Vats for onshore dismantling, recycling, and disposal, a phase expected to last up to eight years.

This marks the second significant contract awarded to the AF Offshore Decom and Heerema Marine Contractors consortium within a short timeframe. The contract reinforces AF Gruppen's position in the offshore decommissioning sector and highlights the ongoing demand for specialized engineering, removal, and disposal services for complex energy infrastructure in the North Sea.

The company stated that this contract demonstrates the consortium's capabilities and extensive experience in executing complex decommissioning projects in the North Sea. AF Gruppen anticipates commencing the offshore and onshore operations in close collaboration with the client.
