Afcons Infrastructure Limited has received the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) National Award for Environmental Best Practices 2026. The award was presented for the company's efforts in biodiversity management concerning the C-2 Package of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Project.
The recognition from CII acknowledges Afcons' commitment to integrating environmental stewardship into large-scale infrastructure development. The company stated its aim is to maintain operational excellence and sustainable project delivery while upholding environmental responsibility.
Representatives from Afcons accepted the award at a ceremony held in Chennai on October 9, 2026. Afcons has previously emphasized its dedication to sustainability and environmental accountability across its projects.
According to Afcons, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Project implemented circular economy practices. This involved recycling concrete washout waste to recover sand, aggregates, and water, reusing tunneling muck in segment casting, and treating tunnel wastewater before discharge. Maximizing natural daylight through roof skylights also reportedly reduced resource consumption, waste generation, and energy use.
