AffordableHousing.com to Expand Housing Marketplace With Dedicated Rooms for Rent

AffordableHousing.com is adding a dedicated "Rooms for Rent" section to its online platform, aiming to simplify the process of finding and listing shared accommodations. The move addresses the growing trend of shared housing in the United States, where millions are turning to room rentals for affordability.

According to the National Association of Home Builders, a record 6.8 million U.S. households shared housing with unrelated roommates in 2023. AffordableHousing.com stated that the current online landscape often buries room rental listings or presents them with inconsistent information.

The new marketplace will feature specific search tools for renters seeking rooms and a streamlined listing workflow for providers. It will also incorporate AffordableHousing.com's owner verification process and "Trusted Owner" badges to enhance transparency. "Our goal is to make those opportunities easier to find, easier to understand, and easier to connect with so more people can access housing that already exists," said founder Richard Cupelli.

The "Rooms for Rent" experience is slated for a nationwide launch in September 2026. AffordableHousing.com has operated for over 20 years as a marketplace connecting renters, property owners, and housing agencies to simplify the affordable housing process.

The expansion also aligns with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) recognition of shared housing as a vital option for increasing housing access and utilizing existing resources.
