African technology startups raised a total of $260 million in the second quarter of 2026, a 40% drop from the $427 million secured in the same period of 2025. The data comes from Disrupt Africa's latest report on the continent's startup funding landscape.

The continent's tech startup ecosystem saw a significant 50% increase in total investment in 2025, reaching $1.64 billion as the sector began recovering from a global capital shortage. This recovery appeared to continue in early 2026, with 40 startups raising $382.15 million in the first quarter.

However, the Q2 figures suggest a potential slowdown. If current trends persist, the total annual funding for 2026 could reach approximately $1.28 billion, falling short of the 2025 total of $1.6 billion. This would also represent a decrease in the number of funded startups to 156, down from 178 in 2025.
