AFRY to design 191 MW hydropower project in India
AFRY has been appointed by Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd. (HPPCL) to provide detailed design, project management, and construction supervision for the 191 MW Thana Plaun Hydropower Project in India.
Swedish engineering firm AFRY has secured a contract to deliver detailed design, project management, and construction supervision services for the Thana Plaun Hydropower Project. The 191 MW facility will be located in the state of Himachal Pradesh, India, and is being developed by Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd. (HPPCL).
The Thana Plaun project will be situated on the Beas River in the Mandi district. It aims to support Himachal Pradesh's goals for expanding renewable energy generation and enhancing the region's long-term energy security. The project is part of India's broader energy transition strategy.
AFRY's expertise in hydropower development is expected to be crucial for the project's successful execution. The company brings extensive experience in managing and supervising similar large-scale infrastructure projects globally. HPPCL is the state-owned power generation company for Himachal Pradesh.
This hydropower initiative is aligned with India's national objectives to increase the share of renewable energy in its power sector and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
