Age Verification Startups Generate Millions as Internet Implements Checks

The internet is increasingly implementing age verification systems, moving beyond basic birthdate fields to confirm user ages. This trend, driven by evolving regulations and platform policies across gaming, social media, and adult content sites, is generating significant revenue for the technology companies providing these identity solutions.

Socure, a Nevada-based identity verification company founded in 2012, reported over $340 million in annual recurring revenue from more than 3,000 customers. Age verification is identified as one of its fastest-growing product lines, with the company having raised approximately $646 million in private funding.

London-based Yoti, established in 2014, has conducted over 1 billion age checks for roughly half a billion individuals. The company saw its revenue increase by 62 percent in 2025, reaching approximately $43 million for the year ending March 2026.

San Francisco-based startup Persona, founded in 2018, raised $200 million at a $2 billion valuation in April 2025. Its annual recurring revenue surpassed $100 million in 2025, serving clients such as Roblox, OpenAI, and Coursera.

These companies are capitalizing on the growing need for businesses to verify not only user identity but also age and access levels. Regulatory pressures, including new requirements in the UK and Australia, and the EU's efforts to standardize age verification methods, are accelerating the adoption of these technologies.
