Agilent Acquires Artificial Intelligence Technology to Enhance Lab Productivity
Agilent Technologies has acquired Virtual Control's AI technology, ACIES, which will be integrated into the company's GC/MS platforms to automate data analysis.

Agilent Technologies announced on February 17, 2022, the acquisition of artificial intelligence (AI) technology developed by Virtual Control, a company specializing in AI and machine learning software for laboratory testing. The acquired ACIES software is intended to automate gas chromatography and mass spectrometry (GC/MS) data analysis, thereby improving laboratory efficiency and productivity.
The technology will be integrated into Agilent's MassHunter software package, which supports the company's GC/MS and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC/MS) platforms. This integration aims to enhance the speed and accuracy of high-throughput laboratories.
Agilent stated that the acquisition will benefit various sectors, including food testing, agriculture, environmental analysis, and applied materials. This move represents Agilent's ongoing commitment to investing in digital technologies to improve lab productivity, building on previous efforts to modernize analytical laboratories through technological advancements and better data integration.
