Agilent Technologies has expanded its Altura HPLC column portfolio with the addition of new size exclusion chromatography (SEC) and PLRP-S columns. These products are engineered to address critical analytical needs within the biopharmaceutical industry, covering a wide range of biomolecules from peptides to proteins and oligonucleotides.

The new columns support essential analyses such as aggregate characterization, molecular weight confirmation, and size distribution analysis, which are crucial for evaluating product quality, stability, and efficacy. Determining the drug-to-antibody ratio is particularly vital for the development of complex drug modalities like antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs).

According to Agilent, the Altura SEC columns are developed to enhance peak shape and aggregate recovery compared to previous Agilent AdvanceBio SEC columns, while incorporating the company's Ultra Inert technology. They reportedly offer up to double the sensitivity in aggregate analysis of GLP-1 peptides when compared to competing inert columns.

The Altura PLRP-S columns are designed for high performance and robustness in liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) workflows. They are suitable for confirming the molecular weight of protein-based therapeutics and other complex biological molecules. Both new column types aim to reduce conditioning times, improve result reproducibility, and increase detection capabilities for challenging samples.
