Agilent Launches Gas Chromatography Systems with Instrument Intelligence

Agilent Technologies announced two new gas chromatography (GC) systems featuring predictive "self-aware" technology. The new 8890 and 8860 models expand the company's portfolio of analytical instruments and were showcased at the Japan Analytical & Scientific Instruments Show (JASIS) in Osaka from February 5-7, 2019.

The systems are built on a next-generation electronic architecture platform, leveraging technologies from the Intuvo 9000 GC, and include intuitive color touch interfaces. Continuous system monitoring, automated diagnostics, and built-in troubleshooting routines are designed to help labs avoid unplanned downtime and increase efficiency. Remote connectivity via mobile devices allows for secure access to instrument status and functions even when away from the lab.

Agilent also introduced two new routines, Blank and Detector Evaluation, for the 8890 and 8860 systems, enabling automatic determination of system readiness. These predictive functions will also be available as upgrades for existing Intuvo 9000 GC systems.

"Our new GC systems are designed to grow in capability over time," said Shanya Kane, vice president and general manager of Agilent's Gas Chromatography Division. "Automated diagnostics and troubleshooting routines free up operators to attend to higher-value activities, such as reviewing data and addressing new customer needs," Kane added.

The 8860 system is designed to support core routine applications, while the 8890 system offers ultimate flexibility and expandability for current and future customer needs. It is configurable to extend its capacity as laboratory requirements grow.
