Ahrefs Research: Marketers Maintain 'Trust but Verify' Approach to AI Content
New Ahrefs research reveals marketers are increasingly adopting a 'trust but verify' mentality towards AI-generated content. Despite growing AI usage, human review remains a critical part of the process.
SEO and AI marketing intelligence platform Ahrefs released findings in October 2026 from its 'State of AI in Content Marketing Survey,' indicating a shift in how marketers perceive AI-generated content. While 57% of marketers still find human-written content higher quality, this figure has dropped from 65% in 2025. Simultaneously, the percentage viewing AI content as superior rose to 24%, up from 14% the previous year.
However, this growing confidence in AI does not translate to less oversight. Human review is increasing, with 89% of AI users manually checking AI-generated content, an increase from 80% in 2025. Furthermore, 66% trust AI-written content only after a human has reviewed it.
The survey highlights Claude as the leading AI tool among marketers, used by 84% of respondents, surpassing ChatGPT (75%) and Gemini (57%). Previously, ChatGPT was the dominant tool.
The research, based on a survey of 300 marketing and SEO professionals in August 2026, suggests AI has become an integral part of the content creation workflow, but human judgment and quality control remain essential.
