SAN FRANCISCO — Global AI Cinema (GAC) launched an international initiative on July 18th in San Francisco, aiming to define the standards for AI-native storytelling. The move comes as artificial intelligence rapidly transforms all stages of filmmaking, from writing and directing to visual effects and music.
As AI becomes capable of generating vast amounts of content, GAC seeks to establish a framework that helps identify and value meaningful art. The organization's core belief is that "AI generates content. Humanity defines value." GAC will not function as a traditional film festival. Instead, it is building a trusted international evaluation and recognition system for AI-generated films and collaborating with existing festivals to enhance AI-native storytelling.
By bringing together filmmakers, AI creators, researchers, and cultural institutions, the initiative intends to define the principles and human values that will shape cinema in the age of AI. GAC emphasizes the need to preserve discernment, artistic integrity, and public trust for future generations.
JoJo Zou, Founder and Executive Director of GAC, stated that while technology changes how stories are made, defining meaning and artistic merit remains a human judgment. Long-term goals for GAC include developing international evaluation standards, publishing research, and fostering collaboration. The future of cinema, GAC believes, will be shaped not just by technology, but by the people guiding it.
