AI Creating 'Darwinian' Career Divide, Palo Alto Networks CEO Warns

Palo Alto Networks CEO Nikesh Arora has characterized the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) as a "Darwinian moment" for the workplace, where survival hinges on the ability to adapt quickly. Arora estimates that up to 90 percent of employees within large organizations lack the necessary AI skills to remain competitive.

This accelerated pace of technological change necessitates that employees take personal ownership of acquiring new skills. Traditional training models may struggle to keep up, as AI evolves faster than most curricula can be updated.

The companies poised for future success will not be those that merely adopt AI. Instead, those that cultivate a workforce capable of adapting alongside AI are the ones likely to thrive.

This skills gap is already manifesting across the enterprise sector. A recent Orgvue study indicates that 63 percent of executives anticipate workforce reductions within the next six months, driven by efforts to transform businesses through automation. Major tech firms, including Coinbase and Block, have already implemented substantial staff cuts directly tied to automation initiatives.
